Vocalist, componist en zangdocent.

Emmie is geboren en getogen in het dorpje Ulft in de Achterhoek. Op haar 18e besloot ze om naar Arnhem te verhuizen om daar zang te studeren aan het ArtEZ Conservatorium. Met een interesse in alle aspecten van de stem, besloot ze om ook een jaar logopedie te studeren aan de HAN in Nijmegen om zo nog meer te weten te komen over de stem. Tijdens haar vierde en laatste jaar van het conservatorium verhuisde ze voor een half jaar naar New York City om zich te focussen op haar songwriting en te studeren aan The Collective School of Music. Na de afronding van haar studie in Arnhem, heeft ze zich bezig gehouden met allerlei verschillende muziekprojecten zowel als lead vocalist en backing vocalist en als zangdocent. Na een jaar veel optreden en veel lesgeven verhuisde ze weer terug naar The Big Apple, om daar vervolgens te studeren aan The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.

Emmie heeft verschillende beurzen mogen ontvangen en heeft in New York onder andere lessen gevolgd bij La Tanya Hall, Jimmy Owens, Andy Milne en Reggie Workman. Met haar eigen band Meika heeft ze op plekken mogen spelen als the Shrine, Café Wha en Rockwood Music Hall. Na bijna twee jaar verhuisde ze weer terug naar Nederland, waar ze is begonnen met schrijven en spelen met gitarist Robert Siroen, met wie ze drie maanden op een cruiseschip over de Perzische Golf heeft gevaren om daar muziek te maken en te schrijven.

Sinds haar terugkomst in Nederland is ze zich vol gaan focussen op het schrijven van eigen werk wat heeft geresulteerd in het eerste album van Meika. Naast Meika is ze ook volop aan het werk als lead vocalist voor andere projecten, backing vocalist, arrangeur en muziekdocent.

Emmie was born and raised in Ulft, a small town in the Netherlands. At age 18 she decided to move to Arnhem to study vocals at the ArtEZ conservatory. Interested in all different aspects of the human voice, she also decided to study Speech Therapy in Nijmegen for one year. During her fourth and last year at the conservatory she moved to New York City for six months to focus on her songwriting and to study at The Collective School of Music. After graduating in Arnhem, she started doing all kinds of music projects as a lead vocalist, backing vocalist and music teacher. She started working towards her next goal, moving back to The Big Apple to study at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. 

She was awarded different grants to study in New York where she studied under the guidance of La Tanya Hall, Jimmy Owens, Andy Milne and Reggie Workman. While in New York she spend a lot of time writing and performing her original music with her band Meika, performing at venues like the Shrine, Café Wha and Rockwood Music Hall. After almost two years she decided to move back to the Netherlands, where she started playing and writing with guitarist Robert Siroen, with whom she performed on a cruise ship for three months on the Persian Gulf.

Having the Netherlands as a home base again, she focussed on writing her own music which resulted in releasing Meika's debutalbum 'Shimmer' in Spring 2023. She's also working as a lead vocalist for different projects, working as a backing vocalist, doing different kinds of arranging jobs and working as a music teacher.
